The Forum at Desert Harbor honors 10 scholars

The Forum at Desert Harbor honored 10 employees at its 28th annual Scholarship Awards Celebration.

The 2018-19 Scholarship Fund Committee raised a total of $25,000 in resident contributions, which were awarded to this year’s scholars: Janicia Garcia, James Gary, Ashley Higginbotham, Riana Macias, Sylvia Martin, Elizabeth Martinez, Autumn Pearson and Grace Speake of the dietary staff; along with Cherry Pimentel and Rachel Pritchard of assisted living.

Resident Tom Judd, secretary of The Forum Scholarship Fund Committee, welcomed the scholarship recipients and their friends and family members to the scholarship awards celebration.

In addition to Judd, residents on the Scholarship Fund Committee include chairpersons Bill and Jean Anderman, vice chairperson Martha Vickers, treasurer Nancy Zink, vice treasurer Evelyn Collen, and committee members Lorraine Battis, Myra Chow, Shery Goodman, Robert Nelson, Joyce Nichols and Barbara Schreiner.

An ensemble of committee members recited an “Ode to Scholars 2018,” written by Vickers, which ended on a high note, “Be all you can be – academically.”

Committee members introduced the 2018-19 Scholarship Award recipients as each one was presented with a certificate and journal to record future successes.

The 10 scholarships serve a variety of diverse fields ranging from Macias’ pursuit of becoming a labor and delivery nurse to Pearson’s desire to be a veterinarian technician and Gary’s goal of business management.

The Forum Scholarship Fund was founded in October 1991 as a means of enhancing employees’ potential through the benefits of continuing education. In 28 years, Forum residents have awarded 391 scholarships, totaling $583,785 for tuition and books.
